Intercity Express, came to us with a
problem. They had the chance of securing a large contract with a
household name in mobile telephone retail but the client wanted them
to have a computerised parcel tracking system. Intercity Express,
being a relatively small company at the time, couldn't afford a large
scale system, and more importantly, the contract was with a customer
who had their own way of doing things, which seemingly didn't easily
fit with any of the parcel tracking systems available at the time. We
agreed to help them.
The basic concept the ability to track,
in real time, pick-ups, drops, and where necessary, signature proofs
is straight forward enough, but the prospective customer wanted it to
be driven from their own in-house system, and also wanted to be able
to access all of this real time information, also in real time.
We sat down with both Intercity Express
and their customer and designed a system that was flexible enough to
not only fit their own, and their customers requirements, but also
with a generic underlying structure that could be tailored to fit any
number of other customers.
One of the major requirements was
traceability. The packages that Intercity Express were to carry
contained high value merchandise. They were also small and easy to
pocket. In the past their customer had a lot of products 'falling of
the back the truck', or 'It wasn't ever delivered' problems. Their
customer wanted a system that nearly eradicated this, and ended up
getting far more in the process.
The pilot of ReDeTrack went into affect
3 months after the initial meeting, and included 3 hand-held mobile
computers with built in bar code readers . A cycle of testing ironed
out the logistical and functional teething problems that usually
accompany virgin solutions. The pilot was a huge success and
Intercity's customers offered Intercity Express the contract that
they had been bidding on, a contract was for one small sector of
their own business, the delivery of units to stores.
The 1 month pilot was successful and
Intercity Express bought a further 12 devices, rolling them out to
the majority of their fleet at that time. Its now two years later,
and this large customer was so impressed with Intercity Express and
the ReDeTrack system that it has now moved all of its logistical
operations to Intercity Express. Due to these extra contracts,
Intercity Express has opened a number of new depots around the
country, and their own customer base has been bolstered with the
addition of a number of other large business customers expanding
their system to 40 scanners.
Intercity Express are a shining example
of what a good company can achieve in such a short time, with a good
solution. Intercity Express's business now covers the whole of the
UK, including northern Ireland, They currently operate 40 hand-held
devices, all running ReDeTrack. Their revenue has increased
exponentially over this period, They are now have well and truly
entered the big league.
Since then we have worked hard to extend ReDeTrack into the Complete Courier solution, encompassing all areas of
the normal day to day routine, Saving you more time and money.
